The Leisure Seeker

An older couple head out on the road in their old RV for one last adventure, much to their grown children’s angst.

This is a sad but lovely bittersweet story of a couple at the end of their lives. It’s not full of action or jokes at the characters expense. It carries a certain amount of truth that leaves you a little bit sad.

Definitely worth watching, though probably not for everyone.

Another book to add to my reading list.

TAG

I enjoyed this film, though it wasn’t one of the best I’ve seen, if you are on the fence about seeing it maybe go on cheap Tuesday or wait for it to hit the small screen.

It’s the funny but true story of a group of friends who play tag one month of the year since they were 9 years old. If it wasn’t based on a true story I don’t think it would’ve been made.

This is a definite drop everything and get to the cinema film. Fresh from the Cannes Film Festival this incredible true story of an African American police officer infiltrating the local Ku Klux Klan and becoming head of the local chapter, is very well told and a must see.

I saw this film yesterday on the last day of the Sydney Film Festival, and I will definitely be going to see this when it hits the cinemas in August.

This film is unbelievable, heartbreaking, funny and oh so relevant in today’s society.

Brothers Nest – SFF

First up it’s definitely not Kenny.

This Australian Film is a dark comedy, and is full of surprises.

Two brothers attempt to commit the perfect murder, family dynamics and family politics begin to raise their ugly head, causing such a great dark comedy.

I’ll be watching this one again for sure. Even though it makes you question your laughter.

Look out for Kym Gyngell, who does such a brilliant job I forgot about all characters from the Comedy Company.

As part of the Sydney Film Festival, we had an Introduction to the film by Clayton Jacobson and 3 others, followed by a Q and A.

Also John Jarrett and George Miller were in the same session watching the film as me!!

Directed by Clayton Jacobson.

Written by Jaime Browne and Chris Pahlow.

Starring Shane Jacobson, Clayton Jacobson, Kym Gyngell, Lynette Curran, Sarah Snook

Friends By Chance – SFF

This gorgeous Italian Film also called Tutto Quello Che Vuoi. Tells the story of a friendship between Alessandro who spends his days playing video games and hanging out with his friends. and an elderly poet Giorgio with early stages Alzheimer’s.

It’s been described as a charming and unusual buddy movie, and I can’t disagree. Though I think it’s more than that. So funny, and bittersweet a definite one to watch.

Directed and Written by Francesco Brun.

Starring Giuliano Montaldo, Andrea Carpenzano, Arturo Bruni,  Emanuele Propizio,  Antonio Gerardi,  Donatella Finocchiaro,  Riccardo Vitiello and Raffaella Lebboroni.

Ocean’s 8

I was excited to see this film last night, it did not disappoint. It’s a heist movie, funny with a few twists. If you liked the other Ocean films, you’ll love this also.

Debbie Ocean is released from prison and puts together a crew to pull off a heist at The Met Gala ball.

I’ll be adding this movie to my collection, and definitely rewatching it.

Candy Jar

Two high school debaters, cannot stand each other, and have hated each other their whole school career. They have to work together to get into the college of their dreams.

It’s a nice film, nothing outrageous or controversial here. Just a nice movie to watch. I would watch it again, but make sure I have plenty of lollies, as it does make you want something sweet to eat. So if you are looking for an easy comedy to watch on Netflix this is the one.

Directed by Ben Shelton.

Written by Chad Klitzman.

Starring Jacob Latimore, Sami Gayle, Tom Bergeron, Helen Hunt, Paul Tigue, Austin Flynn, Blake Flynn, Christina Hendricks, Uzo Aduba, Zack Shires, Daniel King, Evan Castelloe, Wilbur Fitzgerald, and Charles Black.

Aurore

This sweet French comedy was just what I needed tonight. It had everything, it’s a true story of womanhood as the poster says. I will be watching this film for years to come!

It’s the story of a woman whose children have grown, her exhusband is now starting a second family. She is going through menopause, has a sexist boss and is about to become a grandmother for the first time.

Do yourself a favour it’s sweet but funny, and a little empowering.

I must say I like that Dendy gets in these films, that don’t go to the big chain cinemas.

Directed by Blandine Lenoir.

Written by Anne-Françoise Brillot, Benjamin Dupas, Jean-Luc Gaget, Blandine Lenoir, Agnès Jaoui, Océane Michel.

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman – Bonus: You’re Dave Letterman You Idiot

I was so pleased to see there was a bonus episode on Netflix of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. Jerry Seinfeld joined David Letterman, for a talk on stage, not filmed as part of the series. But added to Netflix this week.

Worth a watch if you haven’t already seen it.
